This little work bench has come together over the last year or so since I moved into my new apartment. Without much space this is the one bench to rule them all, where I work on all of my projects. Be it 3D printing, wood working, soldering or sewing this is where it all gets done.
A previous project I had was building a shelf to house my projector in an out of the way, aesthetically pleasing way (Shelf with Integrated Vertical Mirrored Projector). This resulted in mounting the projector vertically and using a mirror to cast the image onto the wall for viewing. I have now augmented this shelf with integrated reading lights from ikea. The effect is great and they make it much easier to control the lighting while sitting in bed.
I found this glass shelving unit for free, as it was initially going to be thrown out. It ended up being a perfect base to create an indoor garden, with timed grow lights, and circulation fans.
We don't have much counterspace in our bathroom. So I built this toothbrush holder using 3D printed parts, 3M command hooks, and some wooden slats. I am very happy with the results. It gets everything off the counter and it goes well with our other bathroom décor.
This Lilliput 7in field monitor is a replacement for the Small HD monitors we use at work. However the mounting points were not ideal for our screen setup. This mounting bracket allows the cinelock cleat to sit on the rear of the monitor which mimics the mounting location of the old Small HD. Printed using PETG and attached on both sides of the monitor, it provides security and still allows all the ports to be accessed.
They say necessity is the mother of invention, and my tiny apartment seems to be an endless source of projects to make the most of the space I have. Adding hidden storage to my couch is something I've been wanting to do ever since I assembled it over a year ago. The way the couch is built means it is very easy to remove the front panel and access the space beneath the couch. Adding some castor wheels and a recycled pallet made a perfect rolling drawer.
I have really been enjoying my wall mounted projector. However I wanted to improve the aesthetic as well as update it to something a little more functional. This shelf is the result. It allows the projector to function vertically using the mirrored projection setup while incorporating some shelf space for books and other items.
Due to space restrictions my standing desk/work area in my apartment is fairly narrow and the work surface is not very deep. My computer monitor stand took up a lot of space. This 3D printed bracket let me use the existing VESA mounting plate to attach the monitor directly to the wall. This has freed up a lot of room and improved the functionality of the desk.
This enclosure was inspired by this prusa enclosure. However I wanted it to be a sound dampening as possible as I have a very small apartment and sound carries fairly well between rooms and units.
Main highlights are:
Cement paving stone as dampening mass
Sorbothane rubber hemisphere's + cork pad to isolate vibrations
Cork + sound dampening foam on 4/6 external walls
Single sheet magnetically sealed plexiglass door
LED lighting
Lost a key on the keyboard. Thought it was good opportunity to test out the precision on the Prusa i3 mk3s. Key was printed in PETG and fit almost perfectly. So far it has held up great.
In order to make the most of my small living space I wanted to get a projector, which would allow me to use the wall opposite my couch as a TV, while leaving the area clear for walking. The challenge was finding an ideal place to put it. Mounting it vertically to the wall using 3M mounts and using a mirror to redirect the projection took up the least amount of space. It also allowed for an ideal placement and larger projection area.
Having to work from home, I've missed my standing desk at work. I also have been wanting more space to work on projects and keep my computer and other work clutter off of my kitchen table. I decided to build a standing desk that would also maximize storage options. Using a ikea dresser, some recycled milk crates, and a panel of maple wood which I stained and finished myself, the final result is a desk fit perfectly to my apartments floorplan.
Spent the weekend building some vertical planters for the balcony. The planters let let us maximize the growing area while keeping the balcony mostly clear. Tearing the pallets apart was a bit of a chore, but an excellent weekend quarantine project.
